The vendor has provided the following:
Built between 1952 and 1954, the Austin A40 Somerset was built to be a British family car and was the successor to the earlier Austin A40 Devon. The Somerset featured rounded American-style bodywork, hydraulic brakes (which in this particular car have been upgraded to be servo-assisted - so they actually work), a 4-speed column shift gearbox mated to a 1.2l engine capable of powering the car to a claimed 70MPH (Downhill with the wind behind you, but we definitely don't recommend trying, we've never had her above 50MPH).
The car has a lovely original interior, which has not been molested or modified during its life. With tan leather seats, the addition of seat belts, both front and rear, and all of the original Baker light switches and original carpets make for a lovely place to sit.
The A40 Somerset was considered the last 'true' Austin as it was the last car released before the company joined with Nuffield to form BMC.
This particular car has been well looked after, comes complete with a lot of spares, and a great deal of paperwork. She's been well loved and starts up on the button the first time with no problems and no smoke. The car has always been kept on trickle charge and has been stored in a dry garage for our ownership. The paintwork is not perfect but is very respectable for a car of her age, as the paintwork is largely original, apart from the front right wing, which has clearly been repainted. If you want a mint condition car, this one isn't for you. If you want a genuine, honest, and about as original a car as you can get for this age, and it is in very good condition, she is perfect! We've certainly been happy with her for the last however many years, bringing back memories of when I originally owned one of these cars back when I could still bend my legs and didn't make involuntary noises getting in and out of it, which sadly is the reason for selling her. She just isn't practical at my age anymore.
