The vendor of this 1975 Opel Manta is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:
When Paul Mathewson pointed us in the direction of this Opel back in June 2024, he told us it must’ve been a really good car…when it was parked up. Though being parked up an indefinite amount of time was a little concerning, we were soon reassured when we saw the 10 boxes of parts which came with it! Surely anything that could go wrong, the solution was already with us either on the back seat or in the boot!
We paid a little more than we wanted to at auction (over £13k including tax and commission) but we were confident (or as confident as we had any right to be) that it was a solid car which just needed 10 boxes of TLC and a paintjob.
The team at Yorkshire Car Restorations near Scunthorpe are a family run firm who post everything they do on Youtube. So when we saw videos of them doing up someone else’s 70s Opel Manta…we knew they were up for the challenge.
After getting it up on the ramp, we all let out a big sigh of relief when the car was just as solid as Paul Mathewson told us it would be! Even down to the notorious weak spot of the boot. Though we weren’t totally out of the woods - there was some nasty rust hiding as always but it seemed some new old stock parts were waiting patiently in those boxes of spares.
The car has been given a good recommission - but it has not had a full nut & bolt restoration, it just didn’t need it.
Work includes (but not limited to):
This car now boasts a clean MOT until May 2026.
PLEASE NOTE: We take great pride in restoring our cars but they are classics, they will not be immaculate and they will no doubt need ongoing maintenance and repair. We suggest you make your own checks first.
