The vendor has provided the model of the vehicle to be a Sachsenring Trabant 601S; please confirm upon your own inspection.

The vendor has provided the following:

  • A 1969 Sachsenring Trabant 601 S Saloon
  • Made in the DDR
  • 600cc two-stroke engine
  • All the duroplast bodywork is in the original “Himmel blau” factory paint
  • The steel body sections and valances have been refinished in AW 2K paint
  • It has never been welded
  • It is fully cavity waxed from new and re-waxed to reinforce the protection
  • Underside is black waxed
  • The mileage reads 636. It is undocumented. I have owned it for approximately 15 years and have seldom used it. It read only 150ish when I bought it
  • It was apparently brought to the UK in 1991 during the “Auf Wiedersehen Pet” era by an engineer working in the newly unified Germany
  • It apparently came from Gorlitz on the Polish /German border. It was left in a lock-up garage until I bought it in 2011.
  • It was given a light restoration, painted where the DDR paint materials had become time-compromised over ferrous materials
  • The suspension was rebushed and the brakes uprated with a new master cylinder and front disc brake conversion from “Trabbi Welt” using VW discs and calipers
  • The rear drums are 89/91 spec with a 100mm PCD to allow the fitment of the Midland Metallics period Supanova alloy wheels
  • A new clutch and exhaust were fitted
  • The points ignition was fully uprated to the later Hall effect electronic ignition
  • An Oettinger 2-stroke catalyst was fitted to the exhaust to try and tame some of the pollution
  • These are normal in Germany, where there are fines for not having one fitted
  • All parts used were NOS DDR era parts, which were available at that time.
  • Various DDR period accessories were fitted, including a genuine DDR LED period tachometer and clock. Also, the “mouse kino” digital fuel economy gauge. A DDR era rare pop-out rear windows, engine bay toolbox, rear sun blind, and spare wheel fuel can are fitted
  • The car has the original fuel tank filler funnel and dip stick fuel gauge with it too
  • It has a working Radiomobile radio / 8 track and a more contemporary CD changer hidden away, should you wish
  • It has been an attempt to create a usable DDR-style and period vehicle with a few enhancements.
  • The lack of engine braking in the freewheel top gear is a case in point!
