The vendor of this 1970 Cheltenham Caravan Puku 2 is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:
We bought this piece of motoring history from Mathewsons in September 2024. Camping season was coming to an end, and we fancied taking on a winter project to keep ourselves out of trouble.
Most things we buy end up costing the earth in restoration costs due to engines and welding. Well, with no engine and for something mainly built of wood - how bad could it be?
Fast forward several weeks to a rainy garage on the outskirts of Thirsk, and we became the victims of another bad decision…The wood holding the bottom of the caravan together was rotten and crumbled away like the bottom of your favourite creamed cheese dessert. As restorer Dougie put it so well - we wouldn’t be singing any Cliff Richard songs any time soon.
But we gathered our thoughts (and cash) and agreed to put it right. This caravan had been with one family since new, and the good times shared in it were not ready to be put to bed. So with Dougie and Adrian’s caravan wizardry, they got to work and completed the following:
We then took the caravan (or Emitrude, as the previous owners had lovingly named her) to the 75th Celebrations of the Cheltenham Owners Club. It was oo-ed and aah-ed at by other club members, and we were even given a pat on the back by the Chairman, John!
Now ready for your next ‘Summer Holiday’, this lovely old van is available to view at Mathewsons in time for the June Auction.
PLEASE NOTE: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles, but they are classics; they will not be immaculate, and they will no doubt need ongoing maintenance and repair. We suggest you make your own checks first.
The highest bid at the end of the auction will be submitted to the vendor for their consideration.
