Current V5 present. Paperwork includes old tax discs, various specification leaflets, some electrical data charts, a newspaper clipping, previous V5s, V11 tax reminders, MOT certificates, and various invoices.

The vendor has provided the following:

The vendor of this 1983 Daimler Double Six HE Auto is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:

Back in September 2024, we had not long put a few of our more fuel-efficient vehicles through restoration boot camp …an electric van, one of the very first hybrids of the 2000s, some bicycles…so we were on the lookout for another contestant along the same green theme. And there, in the outside yard at Pickering, sat our Golden Buzzer. A 1983 Daimler Double Six HE Auto. HE, of course, standing for ‘high efficiency’...maybe they were comparing it to the Space Shuttle?

Alas, we opted for faded 80s luxury and stuck our hands in the air at auction. Though our gold-tinted glasses were soon removed when we discovered a radiator leaking liquid of a never-discovered-before colour, and with a V12 under the bonnet, we did not want to risk causing any damage that would prove to be very expensive. So a chauffeur-driven waft down to our chosen restorer turned into something more familiar for an 80’s Jag….a trip on the back of a trailer.

Restorers Jonny May and Mark Juggins near Malton were pleasantly surprised when we tipped up with the Daimler. The previous project we gave them took three years, mainly due to the fact that they had to fabricate 99% of it, so when a golden slipper arrived at the door, they breathed a sigh of relief and both shared fond memories of being a back-seat passenger in one during their younger years.

Other than the obvious coolant leakage, the car was in good shape. Work included:

  • Windscreen removal, rust treatment, and paint
  • Rear window removal, rust treatment, and paint
  • Re-coring of the original radiator at Autocool in Scarborough
  • Waxoyl under the body
  • New brake discs and pads

The car now boasts a fresh MOT good until June 2026, with some ‘non-excessive’ oil leaks as advisories. Though, as Paul Mathewson says, he’d be concerned if it didn’t have any!

The average MPG mechanic Jonny achieved was 11.5, so maybe not a daily drive for Greta Thunberg, but this HE model may well give you a little more on those longer runs. We recommend that the next owner not worry about the scary numbers at the pump.

PLEASE NOTE: We take great pride in restoring our cars, but they are classics; they will not be immaculate, and they will no doubt need ongoing maintenance and repair. We suggest you make your own checks first.

The highest bid at the end of the auction will be submitted to the vendor for their consideration.
