In our final test drive of the vehicle 2/4 of the ‘Tyre Pressure Monitoring’ sensors failed - we have not been able to resolve this issue due to time constraints so potential buyers of the vehicle should be aware of this - a warning light will appear on the dash.
The vendor has provided the following:
The vendor of this 2004 Mercedes S500L is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:
We’ve had a number of high-class cars pass through our hands on the programme; a Rolls Royce, Bentley Continental GT, Daimler Double Six and what is considered the Prince of classics to some…a Bedford Rascal Camper. But then we saw something in Pickering that was actually royalty. A 2004 Mercedes S500L which was originally gifted to Queen Rania of Jordan - a must have vehicle for Andrew Joynson, the undisputed King of Bangers and Cash and the ruler of the Republic of Rusty Motors.
Before this car was at the auction we had been part way through another Mercedes 500 SEL recommision, when it all started looking a bit pricey. The team at SM Autocare (a mere 200 meters up the road from Mathewsons) had pointed out lots of expensive looking rotten bits on it, so we cut our losses and sold it on for someone else to have a go. We said we’d find a better one and bring it back to them…
Well, we think they were pleasantly surprised with our royal flush. Unlike the previous Merc we’d given them, this one came with all the optional extras including a built-in champagne bottle fridge, phone, front & rear remote control DVD/TV, electronic rear screen blind, headlight washers, reclining rear seats and lots of solid German metal..
It was all singing, all dancing and had just the right amount of work to keep our Queen of accounts happy.
Work included:
One can’t possibly say if one has tested the champagne fridge but the car does have a valid MOT until July 2026.
PLEASE NOTE: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles but they are classics, they will not be immaculate and they will no doubt need ongoing maintenance and repair. We suggest you make your own checks first.
