The vendor has provided the following:

The vendor of this 1958 Morris Minor 1000 is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:

In the world of Restoring Classics, it can often feel a bit ‘much’ (says Holly the Series Producer at hourly intervals). We have several restorations ongoing at any one time, with cars all spitting out different problems. Some are complicated engine rebuilds, some have missing parts impossible to locate, and others are just so rotten that any budget we’d set is already blown out of the water as soon as it goes on the lift.

We were feeling deflated and wanted something ‘simple’.

So when Paul Mathewson said ‘if you can’t get on with a Minor the classic world isn’t for you’, we thought we should test the theory…

We saw this 1958 Moggy in the November 2025 auction, and it was the one for us. It seemed very well looked after and even had some fresh seat covers protecting its new interior. It was ours for £4700! To give ourselves the best chance possible at getting this recommission right, we sent it to Morris aficionados ‘West Riding Classic Cars’ in Sowerby Bridge.

They were as impressed as we were when WOJ 686 arrived at their workshop. The interior and bodywork were all in very good order, so their attention turned to the running gear and mechanics, which hadn’t been shown quite as much love.

Work for this one included:

  • Overhaul of the brakes (new cylinders, shoes & hoses)
  • Suspension and steering refresh
  • Rear axle replacement (with a reconditioned axle)
  • New tyres and wheel bearings
  • Full service (inc new oil/fluids, filters, cleaned carbs, reset TDC and fresh spark plugs)
  • New battery
  • Electrical fixes (new bulbs and work on the wiring so they work!)

It has a new MOT valid until Feb 2027.

PLEASE NOTE: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles, but they are classics; they will not be immaculate, and they will no doubt need ongoing maintenance and repair. We suggest you make your own checks first.
