The vendor has provided the following:

The vendor of this 1980 Midas Bronze is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:

This little car split the opinion of the Restos team back in April 2025. Some loved it and thought it was the cutest car in the auction, whereas others weren’t convinced by its sloped rear window, which gave it the impression of a mid-engined, air-cooled sports car.

Alas, the ‘loved it’ team won and represented at auction, proudly sticking their hand in the air and paying over the odds. We racked our brains to think who we should send the little gem to and thought about its key features…fibreglass, pop-up headlights (well, they’re always up) and its handling capabilities.

The answer became clear…SWLC. They’ve turned out two lovely Lotus’ for us in years gone by!

To say they were underwhelmed with our offering is an understatement. But, they took it in their stride before too long, the little car was christened ‘Kevin’ and became a welcomed guest in their stable of stallions.

The kit car had been the subject of several enthusiastic DIY repairs over the years, which was to be expected given what it was! But we treated it to some professional help, and the following work was carried out:

  • Strip the car interior and paint the bumpers and headlight surrounds in satin black
  • Set up valve clearances and change spark plugs and points
  • Strip the engine bay
  • Remove the dashboard to investigate wiring faults - remove domestic household wiring and fuses, and replace with automotive wiring and fuses.
  • Paint engine bay, etc
  • Set the distributor position up. Set up throttle/choke cables, fuel line. Put jack nuts in for brake servo mount and windscreen wiper motor. Make brackets for the wiper motor and the coolant bottle. Fit coolant bottle pipes, etc. Fit the washer bottle, brake servo, and ignition coil. Remove door cards
  • Rebuild and fit rear light units
  • Strip interior to remove and replace carpets. Supply and fit a stereo and speakers
  • Remove exhaust, carb, and inlet manifold. Replace the inlet manifold. Refit and reposition the exhaust at the rear of the car with the correct hanger
  • New (to us!) seats
  • Removal of the black tape
  • Full machine polish to bring out the best in the paint
  • Carry out full service and rebush inner TCA mounts.

PLEASE NOTE: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles, but they are classics; they will not be immaculate, and they will no doubt need ongoing maintenance and repair. We suggest you make your own checks first.

The highest bid at the end of the auction will be submitted to the vendor for their consideration.
