Up for auction is my treasured Lotus Elan +2 Big Valve
Having spent most of it's life in the dry climate of South Africa, this Elan is in great all round condition and has been kept under cover, both in S.A. and since it's repatriation to the U.K. in 2022
The car is finished in gleaming bright red paintwork, (never perfect but good overall) and is trimmed with it's original cream leather, walnut dash and Lotus leather steering wheel
It sits on it's original chassis, which is in perfect condition due to it's history and in fact, I was very chuffed to hear the specialist engineer that works on it, (and used to run Elans shimself), say it's as good as the best he's ever seen
In the last few years this Elan has had complete engine and head rebuilds as well as full mechanical overhaul and restoration
The brakes have been renewed and also modified at the rear to accommodate a better, more modern handbrake mechanism, which is still operable by the original umbrella type pull handle
All the bushing and suspension is new and this car basically wants for nothing right now
I think the only non original bits are the super-cool minilite wheels added back in it's youthful days and the wing mirror which is in fact off a modern Ferrari but the fixing holes were a perfect match and I reckon it suits the car!
She's just had a full service, oil change and tune-up, she's running as sweet as a nut and is ready to go!
The massive twin Webers are in tip-top condition and tuned to absolute perfection, so she starts and drives exceptionally well.
This is a very smooth and powerful Big Valve, Twin Cam engine and provides super-quick acceleration as it roars up to speed and then purrs along effortlessly, cruising comfortably at 75mph for as long as you like and with perfect steady oil & temp levels all the while
She has pinpoint-sharp steering and superb straight braking which just tops off a fantastic sports car driving experience and always makes me smile!
Colin Chapman at his Lotus best!
I'll be very sad to see her leave the collection as I've really enjoyed this lovely Elan but I now have to sell a few to fund the next dream car on my bucket list
She's a great and immensely useable classic and I really hope she finds another heart to melt!
