The vendor has provided the following

  • This is a 1994 MG RV 8 roadster
  • A low-mileage two-owner car in Woodcote Green, which has been enjoyed on some great trips to Wales and Scotland, for example, so none of the low-mileage problems from lack of use
  • The car benefits from a subtly enhanced specification with improved engine management and upgraded suspension, both of which have produced a very usable car which can cruise at motorway speeds with comfort. Full comprehensive details are in the supporting pack that comes with the car
  • This car has been very well cared for and comes with an extensive history file and details of the investment expenditure. including the bill of sale and UK MOTs. Plus, a record of considerable work carried out on the car
  • Like many RV8s, this one was exported to Japan and registered there in September 1994. As a one-owner car, it was then reimported home to the UK by Arun Specialist Cars in 2019. The seller is the second owner
History:
  • The RV 8 was conceived as a restyled and re-engineered up-market successor to the MGB fitted with a Rover 3. 9 litre V8 fuel-injected engine and five-speed gearbox
  • Around 1900* cars were assembled in a special low-volume build facility at Rover's Cowley works in the mid 90s. using bodies made at the British Motor Heritage plant in Faringdon. A significant number of cars were exported to Japan, and this is one of those cars. *V8 Register.net
  • The bodies were pressed from zinc-coated steel. properly primed and painted using the best 1990s technology. and wax-injected for corrosion protection after assembly. RVs are thus not subject to the severe rust problems that affect British sports cars, including MGB's
  • The car weighs not much more than the MGB but has power, the performance, which is exhilarating, smooth and torquey delivery from the V8
Key information:
  • The car has been set up with updated ignition and engine management fitted by Brown & Gannon - MG specialists. An RV 8 will comfortably exceed 30miles/gallon if driven reasonably. Air-conditioning, which is a feature of Japanese models, has been retained for originality, but could be removed
  • The car covered 25,600 km (16,000 miles) in Japan, supported by a full-service history (in Japanese). Since the purchase in 2019, a further 8,500km (5,300 miles) in the UK, with a current total of just over 34,000km (21,700 miles in total from new. Service history is with the car
  • A certificate of conformity from The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust is supplied with the car
Major items of note include: -
  • Fitment of adjustable shock absorbers - especially developed for the RV 8 and a big improvement on the originals, plus polyurethane bushes and mounts on the front suspension and new bump-stops all round
  • Repair of the rust-prone standard steel windscreen surround
  • Refinishing of the wood veneer dashboard was carried out by Arun. One door cap now needs minor refurbishment
  • New catalytic converters and exhaust system from Brown & Gannon (E1,400)
  • New water pump and new alternator. Improvements to the cooling system have also been made
  • The car is in very good all-around condition for the year, both mechanically and cosmetically. The engine is now in standard UK market specification and vice-free. The car has never failed an MOT and is supplied with a current MOT issued in May 2026
  • The body and chassis are very good, and all paintwork is in good condition. The interior is original
  • All oils, brake fluid & coolant were changed last summer, and the car has been used sparingly since then and stored and maintained in a professional storage facility. Ethanol treatment has been added to E5 petrol throughout the UK
  • Some minor blemishes to the original lacquer on the alloy wheels, but no damage
  • The car comes with a half-tonneau cover, including the rare tonneau 'sticks' which support the covers behind the seats in good condition
  • The original Jack and MG tool roll is in the boot. A spare airflow meter is with the car (previously from my TVR, so not needed, but an expensive part if required)
  • Handbook and the Owner's Information Portfolio with original leather wallet
  • Chassis number SARRAWBMBMG000746
