The vendor of this 1932 Royal Enfield Cycar Z1 is the Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics team. They write:
We bought this little bike from Mathewsons Auctions back in September 2022. To say it’s proved a bit of a headache would be an understatement. However, from what we bought- a machine that seemed to have been left standing for more than 30 years - to what we have now - a bike that runs, we think we’ve made quite the improvement!
It comes with some irreplaceable pieces of history - its petrol rations book with stamps from the 1940’s and a handwritten letter from 1968 when the bike was sold.
We decided against making this Enfield mint - why would you erase its history?
Motorcycle mechanic Lorna Winstanley has given the bike a mechanical service and brought the original paint back to life, as well as adding some touches that seem to have been lost over the years e.g the mint green panel as you can see in the original advertisements which come with this bike.
The magneto was sent to a specialist in Northern Ireland to be rewound and has now been fitted to the bike - without this it was a non-runner.
Whilst we wouldn’t recommend using this bike as your daily we believe it’s a spectacular example of a near 100 year old British classic.
We’ve filmed most of the restoration work for an upcoming series of Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics.
Please Note: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles but they are classics and will no doubt have imperfections. Please do your own checks before bidding.
