The vendor has provided the following:

This car was bought by the Restoring Classics team in the June 2023 auction. They write:

If you’re after wind-in-the-hair, smile-on-the-face, rear-almost-in-the-hedge motoring on a budget, one car has dominated the last 25 years…the Mazda MX5.

We really fancied a Mk1 but when we saw a yellow Mk2 Arizona it was enough to kick our need for pop-up headlights.

It had a whiff of ‘quick flip’, an inexpensive recommissioning project…yes we got carried away again and that’s obviously not what happened. We bought the car for £2,500 which we felt was a snip and quickly shipped it north to Mazda specialists, and self confirmed dudes…’Mazdadude’s in Darlington.

We asked them for their thoughts on this project:

A lot of the elements worked cannot be seen and below is a list of works done and appraisal of the car. The car generally was in good condition when it arrived but was showing signs of the usual MK 2 common problems starting to show.

As part of this refurbishment the car has had the chassis legs cut out and repaired then cavities filled and protected.

Rear arches had some minor bubbling and the best way to rectify this is to remove the rust. This has been cut out and new metal welded in. The inner sills and structure are in superb condition.

The underside of the car has been fully stripped back to bare metal to see if there are any issues with the floor. This was found to be in perfect condition. Rust encapsulating etch primer was then applied to the whole underside and the final coating of Buzzweld applied. All chassis cavities have also been treated which is extra protection from what Mazda let them leave the factory with.

The paint colour is a 3-stage application and had faded, blending new to old was not an option due to paint match and the whole car has been stripped back and painted in its original colour. The only element not removed was the windscreen.

Mechanically the car has been looked over from front to rear and has new rear springs, rear pads, service. A fresh MOT has been done with no advisories put against the car.

With only 39,000 miles and the recent works this MX5 is not your average car available on today’s market. You can bid in absolute confidence that the car you are buying is absolutely one of the best MX5’s that is out there in terms of condition

Our ‘quick flip’ may have cost us close to double digits in the thousands, but once again the highest bidder will drive away with a lovely car.

Please note: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles but they are classic cars and will no doubt have imperfections. Please do your own checks before bidding.
