• Only produced for 2 years, this is a low-mileage and original Abarth Grande Punto Esseesse (essay-essay)
• The Abarth Punto came from the factory with 150bhp from its punchy but economical 1.4 T-jet engine. Yet the dealership could offer an upgrade to 180bhp with the Esseesse kit, the original buyer obviously couldn't resist
• Handling is improved by lowered springs and larger, lightweight alloys, while the brakes are cross-drilled and ventilated with Brembo calipers, still in great condition on this low-mileage example
• Performance was improved by a larger turbo and a specialised BMC high-performance air filter
• Finally, the looks were enhanced with a more aggressive rear spoiler and the addition of a few scorpions. This has the makings of a special little car, rare as hen's teeth even at classic shows
• This example has spent all its life on Guernsey, where it has avoided the dirty, salted roads of the mainland
• With lower speeds, better weather, and few places to travel, it now survives as the only one for sale in the UK and has only 54,000 miles. Inside, the leather seats are in great condition, as is the steering wheel. There is some ring wear to the gear knob, but carpets and original floor mats are all decent
• Bodywork-wise, there is room for improvement with scrapes and scratches; many, I am sure, would polish out, some would not. Importantly, there is no corrosion as I can see, and that goes for the underside too, which is all solid, as proved during the recent MOT
• The car comes with a service history of 5, of which are main dealer, 2 independents stamped in the book, with one most recently with receipts for close to £1000 of work. It does need a service now
• Mechanically, it drives well and has been driven to auction from Manchester
• Finally, the car is supplied with the golden ticket of the original Esseesse certificate. You will be hard-pressed to find another with so much potential as this
