The vendor has provided the following:

The vendor of this Austin J40 Pedal Car is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:

We picked up this little pedal car from Mathewsons Auctions in October 2023. It was a faded white, and a little bit tatty and rusty around the edges. However, it was a legitimate Austin J40 - we made sure to check for a stamp before sticking our hand in the air!

We wanted to make this into a beautiful example, one that would grace the grid at the Goodwood Festival children’s pedal race, the Settrington Cup. So we headed to Salisbury to place it into the safe hands of Austin Pedal Cars.
Although the car is small in size, the process for restoring it has followed a similar process to that of our full-sized projects. Thankfully for this one, pedals are a little cheaper to repair than cam shafts and the crew haven’t been arguing about who gets to take it on a test drive.

Works completed:
Full strip down of the car (revealing the original colour ‘Ash Green’)
A trip to the sandblasters to remove any rot
Several brand new components e.g. new steering wheel, bumpers, grilles, front & rear axle, brakes, pedal rod…(& many more!)
Full respray in Ash Green

We learnt the car spent a lot of its life as a fairground ride, so we’ve turned it back into a fully functioning pedal powered motor. It is a little too small for an MOT, but we’d like to think it would sail through with a clean bill of health. We’ve also had a proper Heritage Certificate issued for the car.

As well as the Pedal Car, the new owner will receive; a teddy bear, Austin Pedal Car cover, official heritage certificate, copy of ‘The Austin Pedal Car Story’ book and a scaled down version of the car itself.

Please Note: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles but they are classics and will no doubt have imperfections. Please do your own checks before bidding.
