The vendor of this 2004 Suzuki Jimny O2 is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:

Back in September 2025, after a summer of longing to be in an open-topped off-road vehicle, we purchased this cute number. We paid a little more than we had planned (but since when has that not been the case) and took it home for £6300.

With global warming on the rise and more to be done to lower emissions, we were proud to be buying something with ‘O2’ in its name.

But then, when we got it running, there was a concerning amount of bluey white smoke coming from the exhaust. It certainly didn’t smell like fresh O2. Though it did have a distinct whiff of a big bill.

Before we tackled that problem, we sent the car off for a bit of necessary welding underneath to repair the sill, which is a common area of rust for Jimnys. We felt a little better after the team at Retro Car Clinic told us ours was in great shape compared to some of the other Jimnys that have rolled through their door.

It was then over to the team at The Motorist, near York, to sort out the mechanical problems. Mechanic Roger Taylor spent 7 years working for a Suzuki garage, so we thought he would have the answers to help purify the putrid clouds coming out of our Jimny’s back end.

Work on this one included:

  • Replaced the cylinder head gasket, including valve steam seals (these were leaking, which was causing the smoke)
  • New timing & fan belts
  • New screen wash bottle!
  • Scuttle panel & boot floor repair
  • Full service (spark plugs, air, oil + carbon filters, fresh antifreeze, oil)
  • Change the rocker cover gasket

The car comes with a fresh MOT until May 2027 and is no longer a hazard to any lungs in the vicinity of the exhaust. It also won’t damage your ears, either, as the radio doesn’t work and we didn’t get around to fixing it.

PLEASE NOTE: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles, but they are classics; they will not be immaculate, and they will no doubt need ongoing maintenance and repair. We suggest you make your own checks first.
