The vendor has provided the following:

The vendor of this 1965 Ford Cortina Estate is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:

There is a plethora of vehicles available to purchase under the roof of Mathewsons auction and often there’s various iterations available of the same car, make & model. But there are some vehicles so rarely seen on the roads you didn’t even know they existed…

So when we spotted this 1965 Ford Cortina Estate, which we were told was a GT variant, we knew we’d hear those fateful words from a Mathewson of ‘find me another one’. We didn’t want to take our chances and just had to know more about it, so in August 2025 we became the latest custodian of DSX 383C.

This car was imported from South Africa and the story - told by the previous vendor - is it’s one of only 26 made for the South African police force.

The car was then registered in the UK in Jan 2025 and later that year we picked it up from auction!

It was already in a very lovely condition when we became the proud owners, with only 55,000 miles showing on the clock (potentially chasing down South African wrong-doers). We took it to our trusty friends at Classic Car Workshop in Croft who had not too long ago restored our Ford Mexico.

Work for this one included:

  • Dry ice blasted the underneath and re-undersealed at ‘The Rust Doctor’
  • Re-cored the radiator
  • Replaced anti-roll bar bushes
  • New shock absorbers
  • New battery
  • New carburettor (old one was incorrect)
  • Cleaned fuel tank
  • New bumper (to us)
  • New aerial!
  • Machine polish

It has a fresh MOT valid until March 2027

We are unable to independently verify if the Cortina is in fact a GT or if it ever saw service with any police force…but to be honest it was an investigation lacking in effort!

PLEASE NOTE: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles but they are classics, they will not be immaculate and they will no doubt need ongoing maintenance and repair. We suggest you make your own checks first.
