Current V5 present. Paperwork includes MOT certificates, printed photographs of the vehicle, printed ownership history, DVLA correspondence regarding the history of the vehicle, Owner's Club details, two Volvo Driver magazines featuring the vehicle, and various invoices for parts and work.
The vendor has provided the following:
It was first registered in Norfolk in June 1961 under the old local authority ‘Green logbook’ system, but there are no more ownership records until 2014. It was untaxed for much of this time so was possibly a ‘barn find’ in 2014 when it was first recorded registered under the DVLA system. I estimate it has had had seven owners prior to myself.
Since 2014 under the care of different owners the car has had much work done, which includes a complete stripdown and re-spray, It has later rear light clusters with reversing lights and later front grilles.
It is upgraded to 12v electrics from the 6v original, front drum brakes replaced with later discs, and the original B16 twin SU engine replaced with the later B18 single Stromberg engine with new radiator and fuel tank, and suspension rebuild including polybushes all around. An alternator replaces the original dynamo, the distributor has been replaced with a ‘123’ brand electronic ignition unit.
Recent work includes the replacement of the gearbox rear oil seal, the replacement of original front static seatbelts with inertia reel, (the original belts come with the car) and the installation of period rear static belts (1960’s Kangol ‘new old stock’) with new welded mountings, and some work on switchgear.
Good matching Continentals tyres all around (the spare is a bit dated) and original jack and rubber boot mat.
Interior is original and good for its age, with few scuffs or breaks. In general an ‘old car patina’ interior.
Brightwork is generally in good order. The ‘spelter’ bonnet and boot ornaments are dulled but clean up, and the prevailing mix of stainless steel and chrome is presentable, including original hubcaps and wheel embellisher rims
On the downside, the main restoration work (done around 10 years ago) is starting to show its age, with blistering to the front wings, mainly on the driver’s side. This is a typical Amazon problem. The wings are bolt-on, and a pair of new, original old stock wings complete with fixings and new headlamp bowls is available and could be negotiated with the sale.
Underneath the car is very solid, and on the road, it is well-mannered and holds straight on acceleration and braking. Registered as a historic vehicle, it is exempt from MOT, ULEZ, and Congestion Charges. Road tax is £0.
