Where do we start!
The Bangers & Cash team bought this car from us for £5123 in July ‘21.
It didn’t look like this.
They have spent a small fortune on it, and it shows.
They write….

We bought WDG to restore for our “Restoring Classics” show - and it is probably fair to say, that was our first mistake. We loved the idea of restoring a Montego Turbo but without doubt, bit off more than we could chew with this “early days” purchase. We should have twigged by the fact that as well as the engine under the bonnet, there was a spare one in the boot.

However, I am sure many of you will identify with the love, to hate, to total adoration cycle that we have been through on this journey to get to what you see today.

We really like this car, possibly more than any other we have had restored to date. Like a troublesome child, it has strangely stolen our hearts whilst it simultaneously emptied my bank account. 12k plus in labour alone.

The project was managed by the team at The Motorist at Sherburn in Elmet. The engine was sent to Lockside Engineering in Castleford, the bodywork and Targa Red paint job was completed by Motor Body Cosmetics at Elvington, nr. York. whilst all the many new parts were sourced and reassembled back at Sherburn.

The list of parts is long, the bill is enormous - and our restoration story will feature in a future episode of Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classic on the Yesterday Channel.

“The fastest production MG ever made” - 7000 built, only a handful now survive.
Albeit at great personal cost, we would like to think we've saved something that someone will enjoy.
