This is my Mk1 Ford Escort RS2000. Olympic Blue. Bought 30 years ago as a project, restored over that time and had:
A bare metal respray with new decals, mildly modified The engine has a 205 later block engine block with a Burton big valve unleaded head, new cam
Electronic ignition
New 4 pot front hi spec callipers
Vented discs
Anti-dive and double-width kit
Quick rack
Rear disc conversion
Bias pedal box with cable clutch
.5 RS Ronal 7J alloys with 4-alloy Mk1 centre caps
Type 9 5 speed gearbox with rose jointed gear, quick shift gear lever with anti-vibration bush Bllstein struts and rear shock absorbers, single leaf springs
Reconditioned radiator, spall fan with manual override on switch panel
Electronic ignition - new webcon 38DGAS special conversion with natural progression jet, no flat spots on acceleration
I bought it as a project and have been taking things to pieces, putting them in boxes to clean up and restore or replace over 30 years, working on it when I had the time. It seemed like when I had the time, I didn’t have the money, and when I had the money, I didn’t have the time
Friends were keen to help and spent many weekends with me
On the whole, it’s spent much of its life in my garage being pushed in and out to clean and polish. When I do take it out to local classic car meets or just for a drive, I get people honking horns, thumbs up and waving
When it’s parked up, it gets lots of attention. People gather around chatting and reminiscing about their dad or uncle, who used to have one of these
To sum up, the car is a good, solid driving car, not built for concourse, but with very good straight lines, good door gaps and professional clean paintwork
Drives well with lots of torque and puts a smile on your face when changing through the gears. The brakes are new, not properly bedded in yet
The car has been a big part of my life. It saddens me to part with it after all these years, but it’s time for a new owner to use and appreciate
